2023 Highlights

The BSM girls’ soccer squad capped off a tremendous season by bringing home the MSHSL Class AA State Championship on Friday, Nov. 3 at U.S. Bank Stadium, defeating Academy of Holy Angels 1-0. This is the fifth state title in BSM girls’ soccer history.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s holds off Holy Angels, takes Class 2A girls soccer title

Benilde-St. Margaret’s rode a hot start and hot goaltending to win the Class 2A girls soccer state tournament championship game 1-0 over top-seeded Holy Angels on Friday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Olivia Olson made seven saves to preserve the victory for the second-seeded Red Knights.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s senior goalkeeper Olivia Olson is known primarily for her prowess on a basketball court.

Olson has committed to play collegiately at the University of Michigan.

Girls’ Soccer Captures 5th State Title

BSM girls’ soccer took home the MSHSL Class AA State Championship on Friday, Nov. 3 at U.S. Bank Stadium, defeating Academy of Holy Angels 1-0. This is the fifth state title in BSM girls’ soccer history, with Red Knights previously clinching the championship in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016.

Girls Soccer Coach Named US Regional Coach of the Year

Scott Helling-Christy, BSM’s head coach for the state champion girls’ soccer team, has been named U.S. Regional Coach of the Year for private/parochial schools by the US Coaches Association. Helling-Christy was also named State coach of the year for Minnesota, the tenth time in his career at BSM.

The Knight Errant is the official student news publication of Benilde-St. Margaret’s Senior High School. All content is produced by the students of the Journalistic Writing, Editorial Leadership, and Graphic Design classes at Benilde-St. Margaret’s School.

BSM Girls Soccer Team Hopes to Make it Back to the state tournament

The Benilde-St. Margaret’s girls’ soccer team has made a standard of making the Minnesota Girls’ State Soccer tournament. This year, they look to go from making the state tournament to hopefully winning a championship title.

Girls Soccer Ready for State Match

The girls soccer team has solidified their spot in the State Tournament, after beating Blake in the section final on October 17th. They feel as if they have done everything they can to prepare for future games. Last year, their season ended in the third place game as they tied Mankato East with a score of 1-1. This year they are hoping to make it all the way and get the job done.

Gilliand Commits to Play Soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Kiya Gilliand has committed to play Division 1 soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Gilliand played soccer growing up and is currently playing club soccer for Tonka Fusion Elite. She is a forward for both her club team and the BSM Girls Soccer team. It was always a goal for her to play in college. “I always wanted to play college soccer and I always pictured myself being in the Big 10… I’ve always wanted to play at that high level,” Gilliand said.
